FELDSPATHIC EARTHS

Miscellaneous

Notes

(Richard Willis)

Often a reference simply to natural earths rich in feldspar(s), as are “compact clays”, “pegmatites”, etc.; whereas “feldspathic clay(s)” is often a reference to natural clays made feldspathic by formulated additions of feldspars. However, references to such earths/clays as “feldspathic earthenware” are not infrequently unclear on this point: whether they are natural earths which would be classified as earthenware were it not for their uniquely high feldspar/feldspathoid content, or whether they earthenware clays with factory-added feldspars. see chinastone, clay minerals, feldspar and soil, among others
