Most reactive of the non-metallics. Very strong flux — from Latin ‘fluor or flor’ meaning flowing; and highly venomous as a solid, and toxic as a gas, like chlorine, particularly in cryolite, fluorite, and phosphate rock. Commonly used forms are fluorite, CaF2, and cryolite, 3NaF, AlF3
