Mineral, of the ideal form NaAl[Si2O6] with a typical empirical analysis of Na2O 15.34%, Al2O3 25.22%, SiO2 59.44%
Hardness: 6.5 Density: 3.2-3.3 Insoluble in acids
One of the two mineral source/forms of jade, the other being nephrite. A popular model for glazes, in particular green, blue, and yellow-green glazes with the cast of jadeite and nephrite hues: “jade-green”, “jade-yellow”, “jade-blue”, etc. A popular model for celadon glazes, even though one of agate’s varieties has been dubbed “celadonite”.
