Mineral, of the ideal form FeO(OH), nH2O with a typical empirical analysis of Fe2O3 89.86%, H2O 10.14%
Hardness: 5-5.5 Density: 3.6-7 Soluble in HCl
A ferric oxide hydrate (hydroxide). Also called brown hematite. Important iron ore. Found in most rocks where iron is present.
