Notes

This term refers to frits having one molar part of lead and two of silica.
This ratio of silica and lead produces a stable low soluble material that can be used with relative safety. However fired glazes containing lead are no longer acceptable in most markets. It does not matter what material sources lead into the final glaze, it is the chemistry of the glaze that determines its solubility.

Many lead bisilicate frits also contain up to 3% alumina.
